SYMI, our home
…is a sailing catamaran named after the island in the Dodecanese archipelago near Rhodes that I visited during my first Greek “island-hopping vacation.”
SYMI (pronounced like “see me”) is a boat built by the French shipyard “Fountaine-Pajot” that is 12 meters long and nearly 7 meters wide. It weighs 9 metric tons. It has two 30HPS marine diesel engines from VOLVO Penta and is equipped with 1600W solar panels. This solar energy is stored in a total of 1100 Ah lithium batteries. For our autonomous water supply, we have a desalination system that provides us with both utility and drinking water. This allows us to do without plastic bottles. On the “SYMI Technology” page, which you can access here at https://sailingsymi.com/symi-technik/, I’d like to gradually describe the technical equipment on board. To see more of SYMI, you can watch this (click here) half-hour video. Here you’ll learn details about life both inside and outside our boat.
